CHECKMATE

Filmed in 2008 for the  48hr Film Festival - Melbourne.

Yes, we did it, with a total of 1 hour and 45 minutes to spare.  Bloodshot eyes from lack of sleep didn’t dampen the spirits though, as the film was screened at the BMW lounge at FED SQUARE, Melbourne.

We had to create a film in 48 hours from scratch and with 3 major things included.  The film had to have the line “You’re living in a fantasy world”, a chess piece (prop), and a character called Rikky Pardee all included to be a valid entry.  We drew a number from a hat and were told that our genre for the 48 hours was ‘Cop Thriller’ and away we went to write a script, organise a location, learn our lines, film, edit, score the film and output it to DVD before our time ran out.  We made it and had a brilliant time filming.  Checkmate was screened along with 20 other films at Federation Square in Melbourne.  While we didn’t win the competition our Rikki Pardee character brought out a few fits of the giggles from the audience and that was worth it alone.
